KrisFlyer Status Challenge to Star Alliance Silver & Gold for Marriott Bonvoy Status Holders

Singapore Airlines A380 1

Singapore Airlines offers the opportunity for holders of Marriott Bonvoy status to achieve KrisFlyer Silver or Gold Status after a few flights with Singapore Airlines. The Star Alliance Silver or Gold Status is then valid for a full 12 months and must be renewed normally afterwards.

To do this, you need to link your Marriott Bonvoy account with your KrisFlyer account and then fulfil the task:

As a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite, you receive the KrisFlyer Silver Status (= Star Alliance Silver) if you complete at least two flights with Singapore Airlines within the first 6 months after linking the two accounts.

It gets more interesting if you hold at least the Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Status. After linking the accounts, you receive the KrisFlyer Silver Status (= Star Alliance Silver) within a few days (according to conditions, 7-10 days), valid for at least 12 months. Additionally, you have the chance to obtain the KrisFlyer Gold Status for at least 12 months if you complete four flights with Singapore Airlines within the first 6 months.

  • Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite –> KrisFlyer Silver for 12 months after 2 flights with Singapore Airlines within the first 6 months
  • Marriott Bonvoy Platinum / Titanium / Ambassador Elite –> KrisFlyer Silver for 12 months + KrisFlyer Gold for 12 months after 4 flights with Singapore Airlines within the first 6 months

Excluded from this promo are only flights in booking class G (group fares).

Hint

For the Marriott Bonvoy Gold & Platinum Status, there is a challenge that does not require proof of status from another hotel chain. After 8 nights within three months, you get the Gold status, and after 16 nights, you get the Platinum status.

At KrisFlyer, a frequent flyer status is generally valid for a full 12 months. If you achieve the status e.g. on January 2, it is valid until January 31 of the following year.

Currently, there is no expiration date for the challenge. However, the partnership can be terminated at any time. Nevertheless, it is recommended to link the accounts just before the flights (2-3 weeks in advance) to maximize the validity of the status.

Status Benefits

The number of benefits of KrisFlyer Silver is small. The challenge becomes truly interesting for the KrisFlyer Gold status, which is simultaneously a Star Alliance Gold status. This provides lounge access on all Star Alliance flights, priority check-in, additional baggage allowance, preferred baggage handling, fast track at security, and priority boarding.

In addition to the partnership with Marriott, KrisFlyer also has a partnership with the Shangri-La hotel chain. Linking your KrisFlyer and Shangri-La Circle accounts directly grants you the Golden Circle Gold Status, and with a night in a Shangri-La Hotel, you get the Jade Status. Conversely, it works the same way, but it’s unfortunately not as easy to obtain Shangri-La status anymore (since the partnership with Amex has ended).

Marriott Bonvoy Status for KrisFlyer Status Holders

Conversely, you can also quickly obtain a Marriott Bonvoy status as a KrisFlyer Silver or Gold holder:

  • KrisFlyer Silver –> Marriott Bonvoy Elite Silver after three qualifying nights within the first 6 months
  • KrisFlyer Gold –> Marriott Bonvoy Elite Gold status for at least 12 months + Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite after 10 qualifying nights within 6 months

KrisFlyer Gold members who already possess a Marriott Bonvoy Elite Gold Status can extend the Marriott Status by 12 months upon linking the programs.
