Members of both IHG One Rewards and Lufthansa Miles&More can participate in an interesting trade-off for stays in IHG hotels during the rest of the year. Instead of earning IHG Rewards points, members can earn five-times the usual amount of Lufthansa Miles&More award miles. Registration for the promotion is open until November 30, 2024 and available for stays before December 31, 2024. Bonus earnings are capped at 15,000 miles.

To earn Miles instead of points, you have to open your IHG Rewards Account. Under My Accounts -> Preferences, you can switch your earning preference to an airline loyalty program of your choice.

Without the bonus, you can earn 2 Lufthansa Miles&More Miles per US-Dollar spent at IHG properties, except for Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites, as these brands only earn 1 mile per USD.
Therefore, you can earn 10 Miles per USD at most chains like Holiday Inn, InterContinental, Indigo Hotels and more. You’ll earn 5 Miles per USD at the aforementioned suite hotels. The bonus earnings from the promotion are capped at 15,000 Miles&More Miles. After passing that threshold, you drop back to your normal earning rates. You can find the full terms and conditions on the promotional page.
Bottom Line
In general, IHG Rewards points are more valuable than Lufthansa Miles, as they can usually be redeemed without surcharges. However, point prices for IHG reward nights have been steadily increasing in the past year. Because of that, it may be actually worthwhile to earn some bonus miles at Miles&More, especially if you are eyeing an award ticket and just missing roughly 10,000 miles to buy it. The promotion is a convenient way to earn them without extra-spending or even flying. Just don’t forget to switch back your preferences after collecting the 15,000 miles bonus, as regular earnings on IHG are more attractive than on Miles&More.
