Regular Travel-Dealz readers may have noticed that we mentioned it a couple of times: Miles&More, the joint frequent flyer program of Lufthansa and other airlines, is about to retire its current award chart and implement a new one on June 3, 2025. Since the switch requires some work, the booking system will be taken offline a little earlier – on June 2, 6:00 CET.
After that, new bookings cannot be made, neither online nor through Miles&More’s customer support hotline. This article gives you information about the incoming changes and why it might be sensible to spend as many miles as possible before the changes.
Changes in June
Affected by the changes are both flights with Miles&More members, as well as Star Alliance partners. The biggest changes apply to the three main Lufthansa Group airlines (Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss). For these carriers, the award chart will be abolished altogether and replaced by dynamic pricing.
Flights with Star Alliance partners (and other Lufthansa affiliates like LATAM or Cathay Pacific) simply receive a new award chart with fixed prices. Yet, all mileage values will be adjusted – and especially premium tickets become much more expensive.
- Flights with Lufthansa, Swiss und Austrian Airlines:
- Replacing the award chart with dynamic pricing, leading to…
- Cheaper economy tickets
- More expensive business & first class tickets
- The cheapest tickets are no longer flexible
- The cheapest economy tickets no longer include checked bags or seat selection
- Retiring the monthly Mileage Bargains (in their current form)
- Retiring the Flex Plus awards (paying more miles to lower taxes & fees) – for now
- Replacing the award chart with dynamic pricing, leading to…
- Flights with partner airlines:

Examples
Miles&More published some examples for flights operated by Austrian, Lufthansa and Swiss. But these are merely a glimpse of the large scale changes that take effect in June 3. First and Business Class tickets will likely become much more expensive, while mileage prices for economy class awards decrease (but so does the included service):
Many Sweet spots with partner airlines will get more expensive or eliminated entirely. Here are some examples for one-way tickets:
- Singapore Airlines Business Class Munich – Singapore:
- Old: 71,000 miles + approx. €110
- New: 100,000 miles + approx. €110 (+ 41%)
- EVA Air Business Class Taipei – Vienna:
- Old: 71,000 miles + approx. €50
- New: 85,000 miles + approx. €50 (+ 20%)
- Business Class Round the World Award
- Old: 335,000 miles + ? (+ 19%)
- New: 400,000 miles + ? (+ 19%)
- Avianca Business Class Madrid – Bogotá:
- Old: 71,000 miles + approx. €50
- New: 80,000 miles + approx. €50 (+ 13%)
- United Airlines Business Class New York – London:
- Old: 56,000 miles + approx. €190
- New: 62,500 miles + approx. €190 (+ 12%)
- ANA First Class Honolulu – Tokyo:
- Old: 65,000 miles + approx. €140
- New: 70,000 miles + approx. €140 (+ 8%)
- Air Canada Business Class Vancouver – Toronto:
- Old: 20,000 miles + approx. €50
- New: unchanged
Currently, Miles&More is running a “promotion” (that might as well be unintentional), that allows the Senator/HONCompanion Award (=the second person on the booking requires half the mileage) to be applied to all partner airlines. As a consequence, any upper tier status holder can currently save 25% on ANA, Singapore Airlines and other tickets when buying two.
Here are more examples for good value redemption options (until Monday morning):
Book Now, Rebook Later
All tickets booked before early Monday are still issued under the old flexibility rules. A cancellation or rebooking will be possible for the modest fee of €50 per person. A price difference will (most likely) not apply to the mileage portion of the ticket, only to the cash portion (taxes & fee will be recalculated). This is a very interesting perspective, for bookings made with both Lufthansa Group or partner airlines.
If you don’t find any availabilities for the day you want to fly, you can simply book now and wait if the desired day may be available later. However, there are some requirements you need to meet:
- Rebooking and travel must remain within the ticket validity (12 months after purchase).
- Your origin and destination must remain the same.
- Of course – there is no guarantee that availabilities will suddenly show up.
