Hawaii: €1,553 Oneworld Business Class from Paris + Oneworld Sapphire Tier

American Airlines Business Class Fenstersitzplatz

Oneworld carriers British Airways and American Airlines bring you good offers for business class trips from France to Hawaii. Flights from Paris to Honolulu start as low as €1,553. These fares show good availability from March through August 2021.

As a cherry on top, these flights earn you enough flight segments and tier points to grant you British Airways Executive Club Silver tier. This is equal to Oneworld Sapphire, granting perks like alliance wide lounge access for you and another person.

Info

Worldwide travel restrictions are in place to slow the spread of Covid-19. We strongly recommend gathering detailed information about the travel and quarantine restrictions that apply to your desired origin and destination.

A good start is the International Air Transport Association (IATA) website. It provides current updates on a country’s immigration policies. Even better, the Covid-19 Travel Regulations Map is one of the most useful tools you can find.

Further, you can find discounted tickets to other Hawaiian islands like Kahului (OGG), Kona (KOA) or Kauai (LIH) as well.

British Airways operates inner European flights from Paris airports to London-Heathrow. These flights are followed by transatlantic crossings to either Dallas, Los Angeles or Phoenix. Both AA and BA operate flights on these routes with varying aircraft. Onwards, an American Airlines plane will host you to the Hawaiian destination of your choice.

Warning

If you want to gain Oneworld Sapphire, you must ensure that at least four flight segments are handled by British Airways or Iberia. As these airlines won’t fly you from the US mainland to Hawaii, both inner European legs and transatlantic flights have to be on BA or IB metal.

Search & Book

According to fare rules, this offer will be online until December 21, 2020. It is valid for weekday departures from Europe with a minimum stay of one night from Saturday to Sunday in Hawaii. Availability is fairly good, with multiple possible departures each week in March and Mid-August 2021.

You can use Google Flights to find suiting flight dates. While online travel agencies might offer cheaper tickets (you can find them via our flight search), we recommend booking directly with an Oneworld carrier like British Airways or Iberia.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

British Airways issues short haul tickets in booking class J and long haul tickets in booking class I. Inner American flights with American Airlines are booking class I, as well. If you decide to credit your flights in a different frequent flyer program than British Airways Executive Club, you can expect the following harvest (for a routing over London and Los Angeles):

  • 25,070 Points on Finnair Plus
  • 21,808 Miles on Royal Air Maroc Safar Flyer
  • 21,808 AsiaMiles + 230 Club Points on Asia Miles
  • 21,808 Avios + 152 Qpoints on Qatar Privilege Club
  • 21,808 Miles on Royal Jordanian Royal Club
  • 21,808 Miles on SriLankan FlySmiLes
  • 20,990 Miles on Alaska Mileage Plan
  • 20,530 Miles on Japan Airlines Mileage Bank
  • 17,808 Points + 32 Elite Points on Malaysia Airlines Enrich
  • 17,410 Avios + 350 Tier Credits on Aer Lingus AerClub
  • 14,148 Award Miles on LATAM Pass

  • 6,382 Miles on GOL Aéreos Smiles

If you credit your flight in British Airways Executive Club you’ll receive 140 tier points for each segment to and within America as well as 40 tier points for each flight between London and Paris. That sums up to 640 tier points, forty more than needed to reach Oneworld Sapphire status.

You can get the additional four flight segments on either British Airways or Iberia on this ticket, too by selecting your flights carefully.

Information & Tips for USA

The United States offers a wide range of tourist sights, from national parks like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The currency is the U.S. dollar (USD), and card payments are widely accepted. Prices vary by region but can be high in major cities, especially for accommodation and dining. Weather differs greatly across the country—winters can be harsh in the north, while the south often stays mild; summers are generally hot and humid in many areas.

The U.S. transport infrastructure is highly car-dependent, especially outside major cities. Urban centres like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco have functional public transit, but many other cities have limited options. Between cities, domestic flights are common for long distances, while intercity buses and Amtrak trains cover some routes, though often with slower speeds and less frequency compared to other countries. Without a car, getting around can be inconvenient in many parts of the country.

Does flying with Finnair also grants you the Oneworld Sapphire status?
