Oneworld Business Class to Hawaii starting at €1,828 (All Lie-Flat Possible)

American Airlines Business Class Mittelsitze

American Airlines is currently offering fantastic prices for business flights to Hawaii. Starting from US$2,009 (~€1,877), you can get a round-trip from Hungary, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Greece, Italy, Germany, Poland, or the Netherlands. In total, there are 4 different destinations in the US state of Hawaii (Honolulu, Kahului, Kauai, and Kona).

Departing from some cities, there are also connections with just one layover. These routes go through Dallas, where an overnight stay is necessary on the outbound journey. We recommend choosing these flights via Dallas if possible. After all, Dallas to Hawaii routes generally utilize long-haul aircraft with lie-flat business class seats.

By the way, this is a fare in booking class D (not the usual I). This also ensures a fairly decent mileage accrual. For instance, you can earn 71,000 miles with Finnair Plus and 44,000 Avios in the BA Executive Club (plus any potential status bonuses).

Info

The tickets can be rebooked without rebooking fees, but you usually need to pay the fare difference. Cancellation is not permitted.

At this price, an airline-initiated cancellation is quite unlikely. However, we recommend waiting a bit before making follow-up bookings. Essentially, this is a fare for premium economy, but it allows flights in business class.

Here are some sample prices to Honolulu:

On the AA website, you might initially see connections for around €1,600. However, the price increases in the 2nd booking step and/or the segment from the West Coast to Hawaii is operated in Economy Class.

For searching and booking, you can also use the following form and then proceed to book directly with American Airlines. While booking, you’ll be asked to enter a US address. Simply enter your address and select a random US state. From experience, this never causes any problems. There’s no other way, as this deal is not bookable through American Airlines’ European website. We’ve highlighted available dates to Honolulu in green:

Routings and Cabin

There are numerous ways to reach Hawaii from Europe. As mentioned above, we suggest flights via Dallas. Alternatively, there are also plenty of other options, like flying via Charlotte or Los Angeles.

On long-haul flights, lie-flat seats are generally available. However, within North America, there is usually only Domestic First Class, which means recliner seats in a 2-2 arrangement. The next best option would be flights via the West Coast, such as via London and Los Angeles.

The fare rules don’t indicate how long the offer will be available. If you’re interested, it’s probably best not to wait too long.

The minimum stay requirement is 6 days or one Saturday night. You are allowed to stay for a maximum of 12 months, but the ESTA travel authorization (for US$21 (~€20)) is valid for a maximum of 90 days.

You can easily find suitable dates using Google Flights (Guide). Unfortunately, the redirection from Google to American Airlines is broken. However, you can find the flights directly on AA.com or alternatively via ITA Powertools.

Mileage

The tickets are issued in booking class D. This is usually more expensive than the cheapest booking class I, so some frequent flyer programs offer more miles than usual. Here’s an example for Rome – Dallas – Honolulu:

  • 46,896 Points on Finnair Plus

Especially interesting are the mileage credits with Finnair Plus and the BA Executive Club. With the latter, a round-trip like, e.g. Amsterdam – London – Dallas – Honolulu, would earn you 640 Tier Points. This is already enough for at least one year of Oneworld Sapphire Status, provided you complete a total of four flights with BA or Iberia.

For those who already have a frequent flyer status, you can calculate the exact credit including the status bonus below. With existing Gold status in the BA Executive Club, you can earn over 60,000 Avios, e.g.:
