SkyTeam members Air France, Kenya Airways and KLM currently sell discounted business class tickets from Budapest to Kenya’s capital Nairobi. With a stop in Amsterdam or Paris both way, you can reach East Africa for as little as €1,231 (~HUF 484,007). This is a business light fare, including one checked bag of 32 kg and Sky Priority services, but no lounge access. Adding that and a second checked bag to the ticket increases the price by €199.

Flights from Budapest to Amsterdam or Paris are Air France and KLM European business class services, meaning the seat next to you remains empty, and you will be served a cold meal during your flight.
The long-haul flights are operated by either Air France, Kenya Airways or KLM. Air France and Kenya Airways deploy Boeing 787 aircraft on this route, with lie-flat-seats in a 1-2-1 seating pattern in business class. KLM sends their Boeing 777-300ER fleet to Nairobi, which are currently being retrofitted from lie-flat-seats in a 2-2-2 layout to a 1-2-1 pattern.
Before Covid-19, Air France still had 4 different business class versions, but now, as the A380 & A340 have left the fleet, only 3 remain. The business class in the A380 was no longer up to today’s standards, unlike the business class that’s installed in the Boeing 787-Dreamliner and Airbus A350, which is modern and comfortable. This business class is now continuously being installed in other Air France planes as well.
By now, modern seats have also become the norm at KLM. Its business class is definitely not a bad choice, also thanks to the good service. Like many other airlines, the Boeing 787 always has the newest business class seats installed.

According to the fare rules, these tickets are on sale without a sales period for trips that are at least six days long. You can find for flights departing Budapest in April and May 2024.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?
More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:
Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.
If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.
This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.
Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.
This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Immigration & Visa Requirements
EU citizens currently require a visa to enter Kenya. A single-entry visa costs $51 USD and is free for children under the age of 16 when traveling together with their parents.
You can apply for a visa online. Follow the instructions here. You can pay by Visa or Mastercard. It can take up to 2 work days for your visa application to be processed. You have to take a printed copy of your e-Visa to immigration when entering the country.
You can alternatively apply for a Visa on arrival at the airport in Nairobi or Mombasa.
