Incredibly Good Fare: €336 Star Alliance Flights to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru from Brussels (Incl. Checked Bags)

Star Alliance members Avianca and Brussels Airlines have come up with an incredibly good economy class fare for flights from Brussels to Bogota, Guayaquil, Quito and Lima. With change of planes in New York you can reach these cities for as little as €336. A checked bag is already included in the price.

There is excellent availability for travel between November 2023 through February 2024. We have been able to find heavily discounted tickets to the following destinations:

• Quito, Ecuador at €385

The fare rules also allow long stopovers in the USA. Since your waiting time in New York is pretty long anyway, you might just as well spend a few days in the Big Apple. Here is one example including a few days in New York City.

The most straightforward itineraries feature Brussels Airlines nonstop service from Brussels to JFK in an Airbus A330. Then, an Avianca narrow body takes over. These Airbus A320 first take you on a six-hour flight to either Bogota or Quito, with a possible connecting flight onwards.

The fare rules give no sales or travel period for this deal. We recommend acting quickly, since we don’t expect the prices to hold up for long. A minimum stay of six days in South America is necessary to get the lowest fare.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.
