Star Alliance carriers such as Lufthansa, Swiss, Air Canada, and United are once again selling discounted tickets for flights from Europe to the USA. This time you can fly to San Francisco or Los Angeles departing from Stockholm for prices starting at only €246.
Of course, this offer is a Light respectively a Basic Economy fare. As a result, only carry-on luggage and one personal item are included. Adding checked baggage will result in a surcharge of at least €100 per round trip.
Depending on the destination and the carrier, your trip will include one or multiple layovers. These could be in Frankfurt, Zurich but also in Toronto or Vancouver. If you book a flight via Canada, you should be aware of the fact that you will need an eTA, even if you’re only in transit.
Search & Book
The fare rules do not state until when this deal will continue to be available. Fares as low as the promoted ones probably won’t last long.
These fares can be found from end of August onward, flying to the USA from Sunday to Wednesday, and back to Europe from Tuesday to Friday. You’ll have to stay for at least 6 days (or a Sunday). The maximum stay is 12 months, but don’t forget that your ESTA is only good for 90 days.
Use Google Flights (instructions) to find all available connections. You can use our Travel Dealz flight search if you want to compare prices that OTAs offer. But you can also book directly on the carrier’s website. This is recommended if you’re planning on adding checked bags to our booking.
Information & Tips for USA
The United States offers a wide range of tourist sights, from national parks like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The currency is the U.S. dollar (USD), and card payments are widely accepted. Prices vary by region but can be high in major cities, especially for accommodation and dining. Weather differs greatly across the country—winters can be harsh in the north, while the south often stays mild; summers are generally hot and humid in many areas.
The U.S. transport infrastructure is highly car-dependent, especially outside major cities. Urban centres like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco have functional public transit, but many other cities have limited options. Between cities, domestic flights are common for long distances, while intercity buses and Amtrak trains cover some routes, though often with slower speeds and less frequency compared to other countries. Without a car, getting around can be inconvenient in many parts of the country.
