Star Alliance members Swiss & Lufthansa are selling discounted economy class tickets from Rome, Paris and Oslo to South Africa starting at €436. This fare doesn’t include checked luggage, but you can add 23 kg of checked luggage for an extra €25 per way from Oslo or €40 per way from Rome and Paris. Departures are available between January and April 2025 for Paris and Rome, and from September to April 2025 for Oslo.

The total flight time from Oslo to Johannesburg is about 14 hours, including the short connection in Zurich. This might differ depending on the travel date. Long-haul flights are operated by Airbus A340 aircraft with the usual 2-4-2 configuration and about 79 cm seat pitch. All seats are equipped with a video screen as well as 110V and USB power outlets. You can also fly in Lufthansa‘s Boeing 747-8 via Frankfurt or their Airbus A350 via Munich.
