USA: Global Entry to Become 20% More Expensive, but Free for Children

Here at Travel-Dealz, we’re big fans of the Global Entry program for the USA. That might be because we find ourselves in North America significantly more often than the average traveller. With Global Entry, entry is definitely smoother: Immigration is (almost always) done in a few minutes, and, especially with TSA Precheck, the experience at security checkpoints is significantly more pleasant.

A quick heads-up about upcoming changes. These were announced yesterday by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The new fee structure will come into effect for applications starting October 1, 2024. Along with the price increase to $120, there is also some good news. From now on, children under 18 will be exempt from the fee. After paying and getting approved during an interview, you get to enjoy the Global Entry benefits for 5 years.

Previously, children and adolescents paid the same annual fee as adults. This will no longer be the case starting October 1, provided that the parents are already members of Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI, or apply for membership at the same time. However, children still need to submit their application along with an interview.

Global Entry is available for citizens of the following countries:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Bahrain
  • India
  • Colombia
  • United Kingdom
  • Germany
  • The Netherlands
  • Panama
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Switzerland
  • Taiwan
  • Mexico
  • USA

Additionally, NEXUS is essentially an extended version of Global Entry for the US-Canada border, while SENTRI is for travel from Mexico to the USA. A quick note for Canadians and Americans: NEXUS will cost $120 instead of the previous $50 for 5 years.
