Lufthansa’s rollout of its new Allegris cabin enters the next phase. Starting in late March 2025, flights from Munich to Chicago, San Francisco, and Shanghai will feature the new product, now available for booking. Additionally, Lufthansa has disclosed surcharges for various seat types in business and first class.

Guaranteed Routes from Late March
Lufthansa has announced the first routes where the Allegris cabin will be guaranteed from late March 2025. These flights are bookable now and include a first class for the first time.
From March 30, 2025, until October 25, 2025, the following routes will use the Allegris cabin:
- Munich – San Francisco (LH 458/459)
- Munich – Shanghai (LH 726/727)
- Munich – Chicago (LH 434/435; not LH 436/437)
Which of the routes announced for the winter schedule will also feature the Allegris cabin in the summer schedule remains unclear at this time.
For all three routes, seats in first class are also available for booking. Unfortunately, these are not exactly a bargain:

Good availability of award flights is currently scarce for these routes, both in business and first class. We found availability in business class on only a few dates and none at all in first class.
Unfortunately, this also marks the end of the introductory phase, during which seat selection in business class was completely free.
Seat Selection Fees
For a long time, Lufthansa kept the costs of individual seat categories, particularly in business class, under wraps. What was clear, however, is that most seats would require a surcharge as part of the Allegris concept. Now, Lufthansa has finally revealed the details:

Economy Class
In economy class, seat reservations are generally only available for an additional fee. Only with the Economy Flex fare can passengers choose a Classic Seat at no extra cost.
Seat category | Near | Medium | Far |
---|---|---|---|
Classic Seat | €30 | €35 | €45 |
Preferred Zone Seat | €40 | €50 | €55 |
Legroom Seat | €50 | €60 | €80 |
Extra Legroom Seat | €75 | €90 | €115 |
HON Circle Members and Senators can select any seat for free, except when travelling on an Economy Light fare. This privilege also extends to all travel companions on the same ticket.
Premium Economy
In premium economy, seat selection is also only possible for an extra fee (unless travelling on the Flex fare). The cost for all seats is standardized based on distance: €45, €55, or €70 per segment. HON Circle Members and Senators can also select a seat in the premium economy class at no additional charge.
Business Class
The most notable fees are in business class. Officially, there are five different seat categories, though in practice, there are as many as nine. Classic Seats can still be reserved for free, regardless of the fare type, but seat selection here offers the most significant added value. Classic Seats are aisle seats with the least privacy and storage space.
For passengers seeking more privacy or an Extra Long Bed due to their height, fees range between €100 and €230 per flight. Suites offering maximum privacy and ample space cost between €400 and €600, depending on the distance.
Seat category | Near | Medium | Far |
---|---|---|---|
Classic Seat | Free | Free | Free |
Extra Long Bed | €100 | €140 | €170 |
Privacy Seat | €100 | €140 | €170 |
Extra Space Seat | €130 | €170 | €230 |
Suite | €400 | €500 | €600 |
The new fees are particularly inconvenient for passengers travelling together. Sitting next to each other in the same row without an additional charge is only possible in the last rows, 6 or 12, in the middle seats D & G of a cabin section. Notably, 6D and 12D are technically Extra Long Beds.

Families with children aged 2–11 can select any seat for their children free of charge, except for the suite. However, children are not allowed to occupy Classic Seats. Overall, the Allegris cabin layout is not particularly family-friendly.
Senators can reserve Extra Space Seats and Privacy Seats at no additional cost. HON Circle Members also enjoy seats with Extra Long Beds for free. However, even they must pay the standard surcharge for the suite.
Details about the individual seat types can be found here:
First Class
Even in first class, passengers are not entirely exempt from additional fees—at least if they wish to use the Suite Plus alone instead of sharing it with a companion. In such cases, a fee of €1,900, €2,400, or €2,900 per segment applies.
If two people choose to travel in the Suite Plus, the fee is waived. However, at present, the Suite Plus can only be booked with the surcharge on Lufthansa.com. To avoid this, passengers are advised to call the first-class hotline to receive a personalized offer.
Available from Frankfurt in 2025
Until now, the entire Allegris fleet has been stationed at Munich Airport. With the delivery of the Boeing 787-9 at some point in 2025, the new cabin will also be available on long-haul flights from Frankfurt. By the end of 2025, existing aircraft are also expected to be retrofitted with the new cabin.
Conclusion
It’s great news for Lufthansa passengers that they will soon be able to rely on flying with the new Allegris cabin. The seat reservation fees are within a reasonable range, and it’s almost surprising that the business class suite incurs only a €400–€600 surcharge.
