This week, Lufthansa released a new booking platform after years of development. And that drew a lot of criticism. The comments in our report were (understandably) overwhelmingly negative because many functions that were previously taken for granted had simply been removed.
Apparently, Lufthansa itself was surprised by the numerous complaints. Missing functions should actually only be added by mid-2023, but they have now been made available within two days. For instance, it is now possible again to view the booking class of the flight segments on Lufthansa.com.
Changes in Detail
There is a new button to compare fares (and booking classes)
. It then opens the following view, in which the booking class can be found:
With a click on the small (i
) next to it, the booking class for each individual segment is listed – albeit in a tiny font size.
Now, the next higher travel class is also shown, along with its price:
However, a few functions are still missing. If you want to e.g. see the seat map, you can only do so in the last booking step. Previously, the seat map could be opened when selecting the connection. In addition, the lowest price of the day is no longer highlighted in colour.
Conclusion
Even if I still like the old design better – it’s commendable that Lufthansa reacted so quickly to all the criticism. The pressure from customers has apparently paid off.
It remains incomprehensible why such an unfinished website was launched at all. Lufthansa had been aware of the negative user feedback, e.g. regarding the missing of booking classes, for months.
