Sun-Air of Scandinavia will resume its direct flights between Düsseldorf and Billund, Denmark in November 2023. These flights will be operated under the British Airways brand using Dornier 328JET aircraft.
These planes offer only 32 seats, providing an exclusive flying experience. Tickets for these flights can be quite pricey, often exceeding €200 each way. However, a more attractive option is booking these flights with miles. Award tickets are available in the British Airways Executive Club starting at 4,750 Avios + €26 each way.

This route primarily targets business travellers, with flights operating from Monday to Thursday, once daily in each direction:

On-Board Experience – Europe’s Best Economy Class
Sun-Air advertises itself with the motto First Class for Everyone. In reality, these are (very expensive) flights in economy class. However, despite the short flight duration, passengers are offered snacks, main meals, and ice cream.
I flew with Sun-Air from Billund to London this summer and can highly recommend the airline.
Booking Flights with Avios
Normally, Sun-Air charges between €500 and €700 for a roundtrip on this route. This might be an acceptable price for business travellers but not for a private short trip. Fortunately, due to the partnership with British Airways, you can book these flights with Avios.
These flights fall into Zone 1 of the distance tiers in the BA Executive Club. Therefore, you have the following options to book the flight with Avios:
- Off-Peak: 4,750 Avios + €25.50 each way
- Peak: 5,250 Avios + €25.50 each way
You can only get those prices if you earned or spent at least 1 Avio in the past 12 months.
Typically, there are two seats available in economy class per flight, and currently, there are excellent availabilities.
