From January 2024: Swiss Announces Flights from Zurich to Rotterdam

Swiss has announced an interesting new European route today. Starting in January 2024, the Star Alliance member will fly six times a week from Zurich to Rotterdam The Hague Airport, which is only about 5 km from downtown Rotterdam and around 15 km from The Hague.

This route could become interesting for travelers from Germany and the Netherlands who want to avoid the major Amsterdam Airport. Rotterdam is a rather small airport that has mainly been served by holiday carriers. We expect that most Swiss deals from AMS will also be available from RTM in the future.

Flight Schedule

The flights will commence on January 22, 2024. There will be six rotations per week (every day except Saturday). Interestingly, the flight times vary significantly depending on the day of the week. The schedule from January to March is as follows:

• From Zurich to Rotterdam:
  • LX 740 ZRH – RTM: 07:35 – 09:05 (Th, Su)
  • LX 740 ZRH – RTM: 11:55 – 13:25 (Mo, Fr)
  • LX 740 ZRH – RTM: 13:10 – 14:40 (We)
  • LX 740 ZRH – RTM: 17:10 – 18:40 (Tu)
• From Rotterdam to Zurich:
  • LX 740 RTM – ZRH: 10:15 – 11:40 (Su)
  • LX 740 RTM – ZRH: 10:35 – 12:00 (Th)
  • LX 740 RTM – ZRH: 14:20 – 15:45 (Mo)
  • LX 740 RTM – ZRH: 14:25 – 15:50 (Fr)
  • LX 740 RTM – ZRH: 15:25 – 16:50 (We)
  • LX 740 RTM – ZRH: 19:30 – 20:55 (Tu)

According to the current plan, Swiss will operate this route with the Airbus A220-300. These planes theoretically have 145 seats, with the business class (variable size) keeping the adjacent seat free.

Flights now available for booking

The flights are available for booking now, initially for travel from January 22 to March 29, 2024. However, both the Swiss and Lufthansa websites currently do not recognize the airport code RTM and only offer the railway station there.

You can, however, book the flights directly on Swiss’s website using the following form:

A round trip from Rotterdam to Zurich is currently available from €177 in economy class. For a round trip from Zurich, you’ll need at least CHF 158 (~€167).

Connecting flights are also interesting. For instance, there are business class flights from Rotterdam via Zurich to Sao Paulo (and back) starting at 1,519€, which is 3€ cheaper than from Amsterdam.
