At the low-cost airline Wizzair, various memberships can be purchased for an annual fee. The most popular is probably the Discount Club. With its transparent conditions, the subscription often paid off after just four flights per year. For €39.99 per year, members received a €10 discount on all one-way tickets priced at €19.99 or more.
Unfortunately, the focus here is on the past tense. This week, Wizzair significantly worsened the conditions of the Discount Club. On the one hand, the annual fee increases from €39.99 to €59.99. On the other hand, the €10 discount now only applies to flights costing €29.99 or more, instead of the previous €19.99.
This latter change also applies to existing customers and takes effect immediately on April 29, 2025. In an email to members, Wizzair states:
Updated Ticket Discount Policy
Starting from 29 April 2025, the €10 ticket discount will now be applicable from €29.99 ticket prices instead of the previous €19.99. This adjustment allows us to continue providing high-quality services and maintain the exceptional standards you expect from us.

In return, Wizzair promises new benefits, including exclusive offers (for example, on birthdays), new partner benefits, and prioritised customer service via live chat.
Special right of termination for affected customers
In the aforementioned email, Wizzair grants a special right of termination. Customers who wish to cancel their subscription due to the deteriorated conditions may do so and will receive a prorated refund of the annual fee for the remaining period:
We understand the conditions have changed since you joined the Club. Therefore, if you wish to cancel your membership and ask for refund for the remaining period, please contact our Call Centre by 13 May 2025. If you do not do so, you will be deemed to have accepted the new conditions.

To what extent this practice is even legally permissible is another question. While Wizzair refers to Hungarian law in its terms and conditions, under the e.g. German Civil Code (BGB), consumers may not be unilaterally disadvantaged. And anyone who has signed a 12-month contract can also expect the promised services during the contract term. However, this article does not constitute legal advice, and affected individuals should seek legal assistance if in doubt.
