Singapore: €934 Oneworld Premium Economy From Madrid and Barcelona

We’ve found a nice offer on tickets for flights from Spain to Singapore in British Airways‘ Premium Economy Class. Departing from either Madrid or Barcelona prices start at €934.

Compared to the regular economy class, especially the baggage allowance is very generous. You can bring 2 bags, up to 23 kg each. British Airways or its Oneworld partner Iberia will first fly you from Spain to London Heathrow. This first segment of your itinerary will be in standard economy class, just like the last segment from the UK back to Spain. The flights from and to Singapore are direct flights in premium economy.

Search & Book

Sadly, we couldn’t find out exactly how long this offer will be available. What we do know is, that it remains valid for flights way into 2021, with travel dates as late as November.

Minimum stay is at least one night from Saturday to Sunday, and your last flight must commence no later than 12 months after your departure from Spain.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

British Airways Premium Economy

To describe it in one sentence: far better than economy but also far away from business class. That’s what premium economy normally is, and this is also valid for British Airways’ product.

You shouldn’t hope for lie-flat seat or anything similar, but you will have much more space than you would have had in coach class. In addition to the more reasonable baggage allowance, you can also choose between two main courses from business class. Unfortunately, you won’t have access to the lounge, but you will enjoy other perks such as priority boarding and a small amenity kit.

Mileage

Tickets for the segments in economy class will be issued in booking class K, the ones for premium economy class flights in booking class T. Naturally, the short flights in economy class aren’t that interesting. But the trips to Singapore can get you some miles and also 200 tier points if you’re a member of BA’s Executive Club.
