VIA Rail Canada Promotion: Up to 40% Discount (e.g. Vancouver to Toronto in a Sleeper Plus Berth for €400)

Canadian Zug Jasper Kanada

Canadian train operator VIA Rail offers between 10% and 40% discounts on its trains until October 16, 2024 06:59 CEST. With this discount, you can e.g. travel for four days from Vancouver to Toronto in Sleeper Plus class for just CA$602 (~€368). From Toronto to Montreal, tickets are available for only CA$52 (~€32).

You should consider train travel in North America as an experience, rather than a transport method. As freight companies own most tracks, delays occur frequently. On longer routes, we highly recommend that you not have tight plans.

Canadian Black Friday Sale VIA Rail
October 15 refers to Canadian time. In Europe, this offer is available until early Wednesday.

If you use the landing page, the code automatically applies. Otherwise, you’d have to apply the coupon code CANADA upon check-out. You also have to select “Show fares with taxes included” to see the full fare.

Trains in Canada

You can see VIA Rail’s map below. As you can see, they don’t have many routes, but the ones they have are pretty scenic.

Obviously, the most interesting part of the deal is the 40% discount on long-distance trains. The flagship train, the Canadian, runs from Toronto to Vancouver while stopping in Winnipeg, Edmonton and Jasper among others. If you are an adventure wanting to see beautiful places, you should consider visiting Jasper.

There are other very interesting routes, such as the Ocean from Montreal to Halifax, or trains from Winnipeg to Churchill. If you choose the Corridor, you will see an almost European-like transport network, with frequent services. While the main corridor line runs between Windsor and Quebec, you can also travel to Ottawa or Niagara Falls.

Although (as mentioned above), be aware of long delays. Especially the Canadian is likely to run several hours late. We suggest having an additional day in your final destination, especially if you fly back from there. We have reviewed the Corridor service in Business Class before:

Information & Tips for Canada

Canada offers a wide range of attractions, from the Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park to the vibrant cities of Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. The currency used is the Canadian dollar (CAD), and credit cards are widely accepted. Prices can vary, but Canada is generally more expensive than many other destinations, particularly in major cities. The weather varies significantly by region, with cold winters and mild summers in most areas, while the west coast enjoys milder winters. The best time to visit is usually summer or early autumn for pleasant temperatures.

Canada’s transport infrastructure is well-developed, with reliable public transit systems in major cities like Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, including buses, subways, and light rail. However, outside of these urban areas, public transport can be limited, and a car is often necessary for getting around. Between cities, domestic flights are common, especially for long distances, but trains and buses are also available, though travel times can be lengthy. Road conditions are generally good, and driving is a popular way to explore the country.
