HOT: Star Alliance Business Class to Sydney for €1,690 from Algiers & Tunis

Star Alliance is currently selling business tickets to Sydney, Australia at an unbeatable price. The catch: You have to get to North Africa first. Departing from Tunis is likely to be the more attractive option. While a visa is required for Algeria, you can enter Tunisia visa-free.

Prices start from Algeria at DZD 243,200 (~€1,598) and from Tunisia at TND 5,720 (~€1,678). Typically, this involves flying in the Lufthansa business class to Seoul and then continuing with Asiana to Sydney. Both directions require a longer layover in Korea (approximately 9 to 17 hours).

In theory, you can also fly to Auckland in New Zealand for the same price. However, availability is much more difficult to find there, and online booking is not possible.

In theory, there should be numerous options, flying via e.g. Seoul, Beijing, or Singapore. However, when searching on Lufthansa.com, there seem to be only connections via Frankfurt and Seoul, and occasionally Beijing and Delhi. The most common itinerary is a long-haul flight with Lufthansa to Seoul, followed by an Asiana Boeing 777 flight from Seoul to Australia.

Options with Jetstar are sometimes displayed. You should steer clear, as their “Business Class” is more like premium eco.

Search & Book

It is not stated in the fare rules how long this offer will be available. The minimum stay is 6 days or one night from Saturday to Sunday. According to the fare, you are allowed to spend a maximum of 12 months at the destination.

Finding available dates is more difficult. Google Flights does not display the higher prices. Although the ITA Matrix finds some combinations, they can only be booked directly with the airline in very few cases.

It is possible that the results of the Matrix can also be booked online somewhere or through a travel agency in the GDS. However, we have so far had no success with the usual price comparison sites as well as Expedia and Co. In theory, there should be options with airlines such as Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, or Air China.
