Two days ago, a new thread appeared in our forum titled “Choice Hotel program massively devalued?” and we also received comments stating the same. Indeed, it immediately became apparent: Following a significant points devaluation in early 2024, the prices for many hotel nights had again been massively increased. Within just 12 months, some redemptions had risen from 8,000 to 16,000 to now 30,000 points per night.
In the meantime, a different picture is emerging, as discussed on Flyertalk, among other places. The comprehensive price increases have been rolled back, and many prices are even lower than they were in December. Redemptions in Scandinavia and Japan, in particular, are now looking very attractive again.
This news coincides with another development. Since this week, many reward stays can be booked up to 50 weeks in advance. Previously, points could only be redeemed a maximum of 100 days in advance.
We don’t know if these prices are intentional. Perhaps the massive devaluation on January 8 was only a precursor of what’s to come. Therefore, we recommend redeeming any existing points as quickly as possible.
New sweet spots? Price trends for selected Choice Hotels
We have attempted to track the price trends of some of the Choice Hotels listed below. In many cases, prices are now at least back to pre-devaluation levels from early 2024:

Redeeming points for reward nights isn’t worthwhile in all cases. However, redemptions in Oslo and Japan during their respective peak seasons are now particularly exciting again. It’s also great timing that stays can now be booked through December:
Booking Period Extended to 50 Weeks
Previously announced but now finally implemented, the booking period has been extended from 100 days to 50 weeks. This means reward nights can now be booked for stays through Christmas 2025:
