Addis Ababa: €398 Turkish Airlines Flights from Athens (incl. 46 kg luggage)

Turkish Airlines Airbus A321

Star Alliance‘s Turkish Airlines is currently selling cheap flights from Athens to Addis Ababa, starting at €398. For an economy class deal, 46 kg of luggage is an incredible highlight. Also, Turkish Airline’s economy class service is excellent, with hot meals, drinks, and even amenity kits (extremely rare in economy class nowadays).

Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates at the lowest price for trips up to 28 days. It will forward you to Turkish Airlines with your selected flight dates. You can also check what OTAs have to offer, as they sell these tickets up to €20 cheaper. The fare shows availability in April and from late October through December.

You can save even more money if you don’t mind spending more than 16 hours in Istanbul between flights.

These flights usually cost roughly €200 more

From Athens, you’d first fly to Istanbul – Turkish Airlines currently schedules a Boeing 777-300ER on these flights. The longer flights to Addis Ababa are operated by Airbus A321 aircraft. While it’s uncommon for a narrow body, these planes still feature personal inflight entertainment in economy class.

This deal is valid until March 31, 2024 for departures before December 15, 2024. There is no minimum stay mentioned. As mentioned previously, the deal has a ludicrous black-out period from May through the end of October, meaning it only covers flights in April, late October, November and December.

As usual, Google Flights is the simplest way to find available dates. You can then look for the cheapest fare using Skyscanner. Alternatively, you can book directly at turkishairlines.com, where the ticket will cost €399.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Mileage

All tickets are issued in booking class U, which doesn’t get you any miles at any program other than Turkish Airline’s Miles&Smiles.
