Aeromexico Business Class: €649 Oneway from Barcelona to São Paulo

AeroMexico Business Class 789 Sitz VI Featured

SkyTeam members Aeromexico and Air Europa offer business class tickets to São Paulo, Brazil for a pretty interesting price. Flights without a stopover start at just €649, a trip with a Mexico City stopover would comes with a price tag of €772. We’d definitely consider this option, not only because of Mexico City’s beauty but to avoid travelling for 22 hours at once – even in lie-flat seats.

You can use our multistop to find tickets, it will forward you to Expedia or Aeromexico. The low fares show up during the next 12 months, with availability getting better towards and in 2024.

SkyTeam partners Aeromexico and Air Europa offer cheap flights from Barcelona to Sao Paulo with a transit or even a stopover in Mexico City.

You’ll fly Boeing 787s all the way. Starting off with Air Europa’s Dreamliner, you’ll spend a layover in Madrid before travelling to Mexico City onboard Aeromexico. After either a layover or a stopover, you’ll continue on a similar bird to São Paulo. Some routings see you go to Amsterdam first on KLM, then continue across the pond.

Our author Felix flew the part from Madrid to São Paulo using a similar deal. You can find his review below:

The fare rules don’t include an expiration date. The low fares show up during the next 12 months, with availability getting better towards and in 2024.

You can use Google Flights to find dates. Unfortunately, their price calendar doesn’t work for multi-city routings, so you are limited to trial and error. At least you can adjust dates quickly and easily. You should wait a few seconds until the prices appear.

If you are not keen on staying a few days in Mexico City, you can use the ITA Matrix to preview prices. Start by following this link and then add the following parameters:

  • Routing Code: X MEX (for a stop in Madrid or Paris, followed by a stop in Mexico City)
  • Extension Code: alliance skyteam, to ensure you’re getting the AeroMexico fare;maxdur 48:00, to exclude long stops in Madrid
Search BCN MEX Matrix

Then, click the button to show the calendar options. The Matrix will then preview availabilities a month in advance. After retrieving flight dates, we recommend booking with a reliable ATM like Expedia or directly on Aeromexico’s website.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Information & Tips for Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo is an important economic and cultural center in Brazil and at the same time the most populous city in the country with 11 million inhabitants and a metropolitan region of 20 million.

The city is comparatively easy to reach from Europe, and the major hub airports are served by numerous European and Brazilian airlines. Bargains are not as common as to Rio de Janeiro, but there are still good offers.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Sao Paulo is between March and May and between October and November. At this time of year, the weather is warm, and precipitation is comparatively low.

From the airport to the city

You can get a taxi for about 23€-28€. Note that Guarulhos International Airport, which serves most international flights, is located pretty far outside the city and it can take between 45 minutes and 3 hours to get to the city center depending on traffic conditions!

3 Tips for Mexico City

Mexico City is not quite as touristic as, for example, the seaside resort city and party destination Cancun. This means that hardly anybody speaks English, but you also don’t have to be afraid of being ripped off because you look like a tourist. My 3 tips for Mexico City:

  1. Torre Latinoamericana: The office tower – which looks a bit ugly from the outside – offers a fantastic view over the city, especially at dusk. The ticket is valid for several visits over the course of a whole day and costs 110 Pesos (= 4,50€).
  2. Chapultepec Park: There is a free zoo in Chapultepec Park. Even though admission is free, you can admire a total of 252 different animal species.
  3. Teotihuacán: A little outside of town are the impressive pyramids of Teotihuacán. I recommend that you get there early, otherwise you’ll have to wait in line for a long time. I came by public bus (not through an organized tour), I found the instructions on how to do that in this blog. I would also recommend checking out the cave restaurant there!

For getting around Mexico City I recommend using Uber. The countless taco stands are also great and extremely cheap. However, make sure that the meat is adequately cooled. Unfortunately, you often see that raw meat is lying somewhere in the blazing sun.
