American Airlines typically uses an Embraer 175 for its 4-hour flight from Houston to Los Angeles. From there, you’ll fly to Honolulu onboard an Airbus A321neo. If you want to maximize the mileage earnings for your trip, you can also add a stop in Dallas before flying to Los Angeles – but most people probably don’t want to do that.
