New York: €329 Non-Stop Delta Flights from Copenhagen (€430 with Luggage)

new york times square

The SkyTeam member Delta is offering good prices from Copenhagen to New York. Prices start at €329 (~DKK 2,449) when you travel with hand luggage. The cheapest fares with luggage start at €430 (~DKK 3,201). Only SkyTeam status holders can book the cheapest fare and bring 23 kg of luggage.

Our availability calendar shows all possible flight dates at the lowest fare from trips of 5 – 28 days. You can either be redirected to Air France’s website or Delta’s website. We personally recommend booking on Air France’s website, as that should save you from some restrictions (e.g. free seat selection, earning miles at SkyMiles).

Delta is using a Boeing 767 in both directions. This plane features a 2-3-2 configuration. The outbound flight departs and arrives in the afternoon, which is great for your transfer, check-in and dinner plans. While the inbound flight gives you an extra day in the city by departing in the evening.

Search & Book

This fare can be booked until February 14, 2023. The minimum stay requirement is 6 days or one Sunday. Furthermore, your stay cannot exceed 3 months. The economy class tickets have to be booked at least 7 days before departure.

Our calendar above displays all available dates for trips of 5 – 28 days. For longer trips, check out Google Flights’ calendar. Not only Delta, but also KLM and Air France sell these tickets. Depending on where you buy the flight, you may have a different flight number, e.g. DL219 or AF3623 for the very same flight. This has certain up- and downsides, especially regarding the mileage credit:

Mileage

Delta issues the tickets in booking class E, which is a reduced economy fare. If you’re a Delta SkyMiles member, this fare will give you exactly 0 (zero!) miles. A way to avoid this brutally low (well, non-existent) mileage credit is to book the flight on Air France’s website with an Air France flight number. It won’t always work, but you can give it a try.

Here’s what the Copenhagen-New York flight will earn you on a Delta flight number in booking class E (one-way):

  • 3,094 Kilometers on China Eastern Eastern Miles
  • 961 Miles on Aeromexico Club Premier
  • 961 Miles on Air Europa Club
  • 961 Miles on China Airlines Dynasty Flyer
  • 961 Miles on MEA Cedar Miles
  • 769 Award Miles + 10 XP on FlyingBlue

And here’s that same flight with an Air France flight number in booking class V (also, one-way):

  • 1,238 Kilometers on China Southern Sky Pearl Club
  • 961 Award Miles + 3,845 MQM on Delta SkyMiles
  • 961 Miles on MEA Cedar Miles
  • 961 Miles on Aeroflot Bonus
  • 961 Miles on Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
  • 769 Miles on Aeromexico Club Premier
  • 769 Miles on Aerolineas Argentinas Plus
  • 769 Miles on Czech Airlines OK Plus
  • 769 Miles on Saudia Alfursan
  • 769 Miles on Vietnam Golden Lotus Plus
  • 769 Miles on Garuda Indonesia GarudaMiles
  • 769 Miles on GOL Aéreos Smiles
  • 769 Miles on Xiamen Airlines Egret Club
  • 769 Miles on Malaysia Airlines Enrich
  • 769 Miles on China Airlines Dynasty Flyer
  • 769 Miles on Air Europa Club
  • 769 Miles on Japan Airlines Mileage Bank
  • 484 Award Miles + 10 XP on FlyingBlue
Data provided by wheretocredit.com. Without guarantee on correctness.

In the end, you’ll have to see which option suits you better and add up the miles for both segments with the flight numbers that your booking displays.

By the way, if you want to maximize the number of SkyMiles, the best option is to fly via Amsterdam or Paris, instead of non-stop. That way, it’s easy to get an Air France or KLM flight number, and you’re also flying a longer route.

Destination

Hotel prices in New York are rather steep. Make sure to get the best price! Our recommendation is to search on booking.com, or even on our own Travel-Dealz hotel search:

Otherwise, check out membership clubs like Secret Escapes or Voyage Prive.

From the airport to the city

New York City is served by three commercial airports: John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport in Queens (probably the most famous), Newark Intl. Airport in Newark, New Jersey (which is not located in NYC, but serves the metropolitan area just like the others) and LaGuardia Airport also in Queens (which is closest to the city).

John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport

Public transport: From Manhattan by subway or LIRR to Jamaica (price varies from $2.75 – $10.00), continue with AirTrain to JFK ($6). Travel time 45 – 60 minutes.

Information & Tips for USA

The USA offers many sights, natural wonders and cultural significance. Thanks to numerous airlines offering flights across the Atlantic, it is always pretty inexpensive to get there. Alternatively, you can also cross the Atlantic by boat.

Immigration, ESTA & Visa Requirements

The USA has one of the strictest entry regulations in the world. Most EU citizens, among others, are lucky to be able to participate in the so-called Visa Waiver Program. If you get an electronic entry permit (ESTA)  for approximately €20, you don’t need a visa for entry.

The Best Time to Visit

Due to its sheer size, the perfect time to visit the USA varies greatly from region to region. In winter, Florida is very popular due to the mild temperatures. In the summer the West and East Coasts are flooded by tourists which drives up the prices for hotels and flights and during the Indian Summer in late autumn New England is a very popular destination. The hurricane season between July and September can be dangerous in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Florida and the southern states are regularly struck by these tropical storms. Blizzards occur from the East Coast to the Midwest during the winter months and regularly put air traffic and public life on hold.

Currency

The US dollar is widely used throughout the world and accepted as a currency in most tourist hotspots worldwide. That being said, carrying cash isn’t necessary in the US, all you need is a credit card! These are very common in the USA and are accepted pretty much everywhere without any issues. If you already have a credit card in your wallet, you should make sure that it does not charge a foreign currency fee if possible. Carrying a few dollars in cash doesn’t hurt though. You might need cash e.g. for the bus ticket if you want to buy it directly from the driver. Most of the time you even have to give exact change.
