Star Alliance founding member Lufthansa has uncorked an amazing offer to Kazakhstan. Departing from one of six Polish cities, you can reach the capital Astana for as little as PLN 4,126 (~€919). These fares include two seven hour flights in a lie-flat seat, lounge access and other amenities. A change of planes in Frankfurt is necessary both ways.
You can depart from the following Polish airports:
- Katowice from €911
- Wroclaw from €912
- Poznan from €915
- Gdansk from €914
- Krakow from €915
- Warsaw from €922
Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates at the lowest price for trips up to 28 days. It will forward you to Lufthansa with your preselected flight dates.
If you don’t want to change planes in Frankfurt, you can also fly nonstop from Warsaw with LOT.

A Lufthansa or Lufthansa CityLine jet takes you from Poland to Frankfurt. There you will board a Lufthansa A330-300, which takes you Kazakhstan capital Astana. Lufthansa’s website also shows you flights operated by Air Astana, which are about PLN 500 (~€111) cheaper. In contrast to Lufthansa, Air Astana doesn’t deploy a widebody aircraft with lie-flat seats to Frankfurt, but an Airbus A321neo with recliner seats. Choose Lufthansa flights to get the proper business class experience.
While the direct route traverses Russian airspace, Lufthansa takes a more southern route and avoids flying over Russia or Ukraine, resulting in an even longer lasting business class experience for you.
Search & Book
The fare rules don’t give a sales period for this deal, but a travel period from June 2023 through March 2024. A minimum stay of five nights or one night from Saturday to Sunday is required to get the lowest fare.
Google Flights shows you additional flight dates. We recommend booking business class tickets directly with the airline.
Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?
More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:
Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.
If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.
This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.
Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.
This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.
You can also use Lufthansa’s best price search, although its prices highlight Air Astana flights. To get the best product and mileage, be sure to select flights operated by Lufthansa. Some Air Astana connections book you into economy class on the inbound, making that option doubly unappealing.

Mileage
Lufthansa issues tickets for all flight segments in booking class P. A roundtrip from Warsaw grants you the following mileage:
- 10,406 Kilometers on Air China PhoenixMiles
- 8,084 Miles on Singapore KrisFlyer
- 6,468 Award Miles + 1,292 PQP on United MileagePlus
- 6,468 Miles on Copa ConnectMiles
- 6,468 Points on SAS EuroBonus
- 6,468 Miles on Thai Royal Orchid Plus
- 6,466 Miles on LATAM Pass
- 5,912 Miles on Air Canada Aeroplan

- 3,200 Award Miles + 6,468 Tier Miles on Miles&More

They change name of the capital for Astana, again 😉
Hi Paw! Thank you. Like wiki puts it “As of 2022, it holds the Guinness World Record for the capital city with the most name changes in modern times.”
