First, you will fly to Frankfurt with Lufthansa using an aircraft from the Airbus A320 family with a 3-3 configuration. With SWISS, you will fly on the Embraer 190 with a 2-2 configuration or the Airbus A220 with a 2-3 configuration, in all this flghts the middle seat is always kept vacant in the business class.

The first class long-haul flight to Sao Paulo is then operated either by the Boeing 747-8 (Lufthansa, from Frankfurt) or the Boeing 777 (Swiss, from Zurich). The seats in these aircraft can transform into beds measuring more than 2 meters in length.

From Sao Paulo, the journey continues with LATAM to Santiago de Chile. When choosing your connection, pay close attention, as LATAM operates flights with Boeing 787 and lie-flat seats. However, on other occasions, you may have to settle for an Airbus A320, which offers only a premium economy class. This is similar to the business class within Europe, meaning there are only economy seats with the middle seat kept vacant.

For nearly the same price, you can fly first class with Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Buenos Aires and continue to Santiago de Chile in premium economy. With this combination, you will fly two hours longer in first class and earn more miles & points.

Information & Tips for Santiago de Chile

Santiago de Chile is the capital and most important economic center of Chile. With its 5.6 million inhabitants, the city is also a key cultural center which attracts numerous tourists thanks to its location near both the coast and the Andes Mountains.

From the Airport to the City Center

Two different airport busses, CentroPuerto and TurBus, run from the airport to the city. The fare is about 3€ per person and the journey takes about 30 to 50 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Credit cards are accepted when buying a ticket at the airport counter.

Unfortunately, none of the two buses take you directly into the city centre. The buses from CentroPuerto go to the “Los Héroes” station, from there you can walk to the central Plaza de Armas in about 20 minutes and a transfer to the metro is also possible quite easily. A taxi is a bit faster and costs approximately 20€.

Best Time to Travel

The best weather conditions for sightseeing and other touristic activities are in spring between September and November and in autumn between March and May. Temperatures during these months are moderate and rainfall is low.
