Miles&More: Status Challenge from SAS EuroBonus (to Frequent Traveller or Senator)

Miles More Senator Karte

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is one of Star Alliance’s five founding members. To no avail, the airline will leave the alliance on August 31, 2024, and because of that, many EuroBonus status holders will lose their Star Alliance Gold benefits (to gain SkyTeam Elite Plus perks).

We have been waiting for other Star Alliance members to offer a status match to EuroBonus members to keep their Star Alliance tier. A little surprising, Lufthansa is the one to make the first step, currently offering a status match to SAS tier holders.

EuroBonus status holders will receive a Miles&More Frequent Traveller or Senator status for free until February 2025. If you complete two (Frequent Flyer) or six (Senator) segments on Miles&More member airlines before November 2024, your status will be extended until February 2026.

LH MM Status Match

Confirmed Matches

It is not possible to gain HON Circle membership through this match. All EuroBonus tiers higher than Silver are matched to Senator status (=Star Alliance Gold).

  • SAS EuroBonus Silver → Miles&More Frequent Traveller
  • SAS EuroBonus Gold → Miles&More Senator
  • SAS EuroBonus Diamond → Miles&More Senator
  • SAS EuroBonus Pandion → Miles&More Senator

Procedure

The match is supposedly open until September 30, 2024. You need to open the landing page, then enter your Miles&More account number and corresponding e-mail address. The site will guide you through the process step-by-step.

LH MM Status Match II

When entering your EuroBonus membership number, make sure it matches the account number in your screenshot/photography. It may be the plain number 12345, a number with the prefix EB like EB12345 or include a third letter corresponding to your status like EBG for gold members. The membership number would then be EBG12345. If any of the combinations should cause any problems, we will keep you updated.

In the next step, you will be asked for a proof of your membership. That could be a screenshot from the SAS app, SAS’ website, or a photography of your membership card.

LH MM Status Match III

After completing that step, you will get a summary of your application, including the status you can gain if Miles&More matches your status. There is also a reminder how long your status is valid and how to extend it:

LH MM Status Match IV

After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation both on screen and by e-mail.

In some cases, people were asked to prove their identity. A picture of any government issued photo ID should do the trick. This has happened anecdotally and is not part of every match.

According to the website, your match will be processed within ten working days.

Extending Your Status Until February 2026

As mentioned previously, your status is initially valid until February 2025. An extension will be granted if you complete a certain number of segments with Miles&More member airlines:

  • 2 segments for Frequent Travellers
  • 6 segments for Senators

It’s important to stress that segments are required, not tickets. As a result, a single flight booking Amsterdam – Frankfurt – Vienna will count as two segments, making the extension rather easy.

These segments need to be operated by one of the following Miles&More member airlines:

  • Air Dolomiti
  • Austrian Airlines
  • Brussels Airlines
  • Croatia Airlines
  • Discover Airlines
  • Eurowings
  • LOT Polish Airlines
  • Lufthansa
  • Lufthansa City
  • Luxair
  • Swiss

  2. Anders says:

Are you sure the companion award perk is available. Tried a dummy booking on the app today and didn’t see the discount. Maybe the status hasn’t reflected in the system yet. Can’t see any difference in the app (yet).

Thank you for this. I used my SAS Gold and applied on Friday and received acceptance same day for *A Gold until end of November. Takes 10 days to show on app card.

I’ve just booked some flights with SAS to Oslo from UK, for December and return in February 25. As usual I’ve entered my Miles and More Membership number, rather than SAS program, which I was surprised to find was still an option when making a booking. Do you know if SAS will honour these as M&M points ?

    • Peer says:

They won’t disable the input form based on departure date. But you likely won’t receive any miles for departures after Sep. 1, 2024
