If you plan to travel to Thailand this fall or winter, look no further than this deal to Bangkok. Oman Air has today slashed the price for business class tickets from Milan, Italy to Bangkok in half and is now offering round trip flights starting at €1,052.
The deal is available for travel from September 2023 until March 2024, with overall good availability. The fare includes 50 kg of checked luggage, lounge access and lie-flat seats on all four flight segments. We recommend booking as early as possible to avoid missing out on this deal.

It is also possible to include a stop-over in Muscat, (almost) free of charge. While the multi-stop search on OmanAir.com is broken, the flight search can redirect you right to the search results. Here’s an example with a 4-day stopover for €1,064.
Thailand has ended all covid-related travel requirements in 2022. The fare is non-refundable. For changes, a fee of €300 in addition to any fare difference will apply.
We haven’t seen business class tickets this cheap for a long time. Therefore, we recommend to wait whether the fare will be honored or not, before booking any feeder flights or hotels.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?
More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:
Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.
If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.
This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.
Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.
This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.
All flights are operated with Boeing 787 Dreamliners, featuring lie-flat seats. Depending on the chosen flight dates, the layover in Muscat will be anything between 2 or 16 hours. It is possible to add a longer stop-over, as explained above.
Seats are arranged in 2-2-2. However, Oman Air is using a business class seat called Apex Suite, allowing direct aisle access for every passenger. Here are three reviews:

Search & Book
According to Fare Rules, tickets can be issued until September 5. However, we expect the price to be raised way sooner than that. So it’s wise to book as soon as possible.
The minimum stay in Bangkok is 5 days, while the stay cannot exceed 3 months on this fare.

Oman Air is set to join the Oneworld alliance in 2024. According to an interview from November 2022, it’s supposed to happen in the first quarter. However, a delay is not unlikely. So don’t expect to earn any Oneworld Miles and Tier Points with British Airways, although it might be the case for travel in 2024.

In regards to the ‘error’ fare not being honored 2,5 weeks after booking, I sent an email to the Milan sales office to confirm that this is indeed the case and to alert them about the impression this is making on first time bookers with Oman Air. So far my booking (booked directly on the Oman Air website) is still active.
