Icelandic low-cost carrier PLAY is starting the year with a sale, putting a 25% discount on the ticket price, excluding taxes and fees. Realistically, that amounts to a discount of roughly 15% on the total price. Not bad, considering that the prices of PLAY flights are very low already to begin with. For instance, our deal for flights from the American East Coast to Iceland now starts at only US$238 (~€206).

The sale ends on January 10, 2025 and is valid for flights until May, as well as in September and October 2025. Not all routes are eligible, but most of them are. Here’s a map showing the routes affected by this sale:

While these prices sound very good, you must remember that PLAY tickets don’t even include a carry-on. So expect to slap another €150 on those prices for checked luggage on transatlantic round trips, or roughly €50 for a carry-on on flights to Iceland.
By the way, if you’re booking a trip between the US and the European mainland, PLAY allows you to add a stopover in Iceland for a minimal surcharge. Here’s a guide on how to book it:
Conclusion
While the realistic discount of 10-15% is not huge, the deal is nevertheless not bad, as the prices are very low. Especially if you don’t need much luggage, PLAY is a good option. This sale is thus most worthwhile for short trips to Iceland. And it’s least useful for trips from the US to mainland Europe.
