Right now, Star Alliance member airline TAP Portugal is offering extremely affordable business class fares from Cape Town to Sao Paulo. A lot of other Brazilian destinations are possible too. Prices start at €636 oneway and €1,269 roundtrip. The fare also allows a stopover in Lisbon, so that you can use this fare as a inbound flight from Cape Town and an outbound flight to Brazil.
Most EU-countries advise against non-essential travel until at least May, 2020. Right now, it remains uncertain from what point on holidays and other non-essential travel is possible again. At least, with this offer there are availabilities until March, 2021. We are confident that flights will be possible until then again. But we advise to book travel far in advance to avoid problems.
If the situation remains uncertain und unpredictable, you will be able to make use of TAP Portugal’s rebooking options. With rebooking there will be no rebooking fee (but fare differences may have to be paid).. With cancellations you will at least receive a voucher in the amount of your flight ticket price.
The following destinations are possible (oneway / return):
- Sao Paulo from €640 / €1,273
- Rio de Janeiro from €640 / €1,273
- Belo Horizonte from €651 / €1,278
- Porto Alegre from €651
- Brasília from €651 / €1,291
- Natal from €674 / €1,340
- Recife from €674
- Salvador da Bahio from €674 / €1,333
Flights are always via TAP’s hub in Lisbon. Depending on your flights and destinations, you may have a longer layover there, sometimes even up to 24 hours. But you can make use of TAP’s stopover program.
Search & Book
According to the fare rules, this deal is still available until April 30, 2020. There are minimum stay and maximum stay requirements. Travel times need to be between November 11, 2020 and March 15, 2021.
A stopover in both directions is permitted. If it’s less than 120 hours, it’s free. Over 120 hours a fee of €75 is due.
Availabilites are extremely good. Almost all flights are part of this promotion, except the flights around Christmas. You can find your preferred travel dates with Google Flights (instructions). You can then go ahead and book with the cheapest OTA through our Travel-Dealz search. Flights are €200-300 more expensive, if you book directly with TAP.
TAP Portugal’s Business Class
TAP Portugal updated all their long-haul airplanes with a new business class. Those feature a reverse herringbone 1-2-1 seat configuration now.
Their business is getting pretty good reviews now. You can check some of the following reviews if you are interested: The Points Guy, Simple Flying, Airline Geeks or Sam Chui Photos.
Mileage
Tickets are issued in booking class J. Most Star Alliance frequent flyer programs will credit these at 200%. A roundtrip to Rio de Janeiro may earn you 42.000 miles!

Information & Tips for Brazil
Brazil is famous for attractions like the Amazon rainforest, the vibrant cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and natural landmarks like Iguazu Falls and Pantanal. The currency is the Brazilian real (BRL), and credit cards are commonly accepted in most places. The price level can vary—major cities and tourist spots can be expensive, but other areas offer more affordable options. Brazil’s weather is tropical, with hot, humid summers, especially in coastal regions, while southern areas experience milder winters. The best time to visit is generally during the dry season, from May to October.
Brazil’s transport infrastructure varies across the country. In major cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, public transport includes buses, metros, and taxis, though traffic congestion can make getting around slow at times. Ride-hailing apps are widely used and convenient. For intercity travel, long-distance buses are a common, affordable option, but they can be slow. Domestic flights are popular for longer distances, offering quick access to destinations like the Amazon or coastal areas. However, outside major cities, transportation options may be less frequent or reliable, requiring more planning.
