Paris: Starting at $353 from 4 American Cities w/ TAP, Add a Free Lisbon Stopover (Cabin Bags Only)

Star Alliance member TAP Air Portugal offers flights from Washington DC to Paris starting at US$353 (~€330) through OTAs. These flights don’t include checked luggage. The fare that does starts at €461 (~US$496) on TAP’s website. You can find these flights between November 2023 and February 2024.

If you want to visit two European capitals for the price of one, you can add a stopover in Lisbon, Portugal without increasing the ticket price (from Newark and Chicago) or just a little more (from Washington and San Francisco).

Make it two-in-one with a stopover in Lisbon

TAP’s fare rules allow you to spend a few days in Lisbon without increasing the flight price. While adding a stopover increases the price by roughly 20 bucks, you will still get a bargain deal, exploring two European capitals for as little as $353:

¹Due to TAP’s schedules, it makes more sense to add the stop in Lisbon on the outbound leg.

You would fly TAP’s Airbus A321LRs on the Transatlantic leg from Washington and Newark. These planes have a 3-3 seating configuration in economy class, but come with personal inflight entertainment and more legroom compared to TAP’s European fleet. An Airbus A330-900neo handles flights from Chicago and San Francisco. The onboard product is largely the same, with a 2-4-2 seating pattern being the main difference.

The fare rules don’t state any expiration date. There is a minimum stay on the other hand of a Saturday night or 6 nights.

Adding a stopover is a little more complicated, since Google Flights does not offer a preview calendar like it does for roundtrip or oneway fares. The best way to find cheap tickets is retrieving roundtrip fares, leaving the out- and inbound flight date as it is and try to add a flight between Paris and Lisbon. You still have to cope with a trial-and-error approach.
