Angola, Brazil, Caribbean, Canada, USA: Nonstop Flights with TAP for €271 from Lisbon

TAP Portugal A330

The Star Alliance member TAP offers a bouquet of nonstop flights across the pond from Lisbon for as little as €271 with OTA’s. When booking with the airline directly, it’s €299. Luggage can be added for €100. Travel is possible from May 15 to March 31, 2023, summer holidays and festive season. Alternative destinations are found in the Americas and in Angola for less than €400.

TAP flights purchased before June 30, 2022, can be rebooked without having to pay a rebooking fee, but the price difference will have to be paid. This does not apply to Discount fares.

Worldwide travel restrictions are in place to slow the spread of Covid-19. We strongly recommend gathering detailed information about the travel and quarantine restrictions that apply to your desired origin and destination.

A good start is the International Air Transport Association (IATA) website. It provides current updates on a country’s immigration policies. Even better, the Covid-19 Travel Regulations Map is one of the most useful tools you can find.

These prices are with departure from Lisbon:

Availabilities are from September to March 2023, excluding European summer holidays and of course the Christmas and New Year’s season. Miami has a good availability throughout from September, while Montreal’s availability concentrates around the early months of 2023.

TAP uses the Airbus A321neo with a 3-3 seat configuration and an A330-900neo with 2-4-2 configuration on their long distance flights.

Search & Book

This fare can be booked until May 16, 2022, for departures between May 15, 2022, and March 31, 2023. The minimum stay requirement is of 5 days. Like so often, this cheap fare is not available during the two main holiday seasons June 15- August 31, 2022, and December 15- January 15, 2023. The maximum stay is limited to one month.

You can search for the flights on Google Flights. The tickets are roughly €60 cheaper with OTA’s than with the airline.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

The tickets are issued in booking class O. Since these tickets come at a very reasonable price, they will be rewarded with a low mileage.

To give you an example, return flights from Lisbon to Montreal would get you the following mileage credits:

  • 1,626 Award Miles + 120 Points on Miles&More
  • 650 Miles on Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
  • 650 Award Miles on Emirates Skywards
  • 650 Miles on Air Canada Aeroplan
  • 650 Miles on Egyptair Plus
  • 524 Miles on Hainan Fortune Wings Club
  • 326 Miles on Azul TodoAzul
