Air Italy Ceases Operations

Air Italy

Since the beginning of travel-dealz.com, Air Italy’s nonstop business class offers from Milan popped up regularly in our newsletter. This won’t happen anymore, as the airline announced it will cease operations immediately after their shareholder’s meeting on February 11, 2020. The entire company will be liquidated.

Until February 25 other carriers will carry out flights on behalf of Air Italy. Passengers who have a ticket after February 25 are promised a full refund. You can read the airlines’ full press release here and on their website:

Air Italy’s official press release on their website.

Air Italy enjoyed severe financial backing by Qatar Airways. For example, their entire long haul fleet consisted of former Qatar Airways Airbus A330-200.

It seems like their Middle Eastern investors lost hope quickly in the European carrier’s business model. That large parts of their fleet consisted of Boeing 737 MAX8 aircraft certainly did not help their profitability, either. Air Italy operated a nonstop network out of Milan-Malpensa airport, serving African and North American airports. Sadly, it seems like all employees have or will lose their job as a consequence of this sudden decision.
