Lufthansa Allegris: Further Details on the New Business Class

Lufthansa Allegris Business Class

A Travel-Dealz reader made an exciting discovery this week. On his flight from Munich to Vancouver in July 2024, an unknown seat map suddenly appeared. It doesn’t match the “old” Lufthansa business class or the configuration of former Philippine Airline jets.

Looking at the news from the last few months, it becomes clear: it’s the new business class nicknamed Allegris. The seat map with staggered seats matches exactly what was shown in February. You can e.g. see the suite in rows 2 and 8 with lockable doors:

Now, of course, we wondered: did Lufthansa really quietly make the first route with the new business class available for booking?

But that’s not the case. As the press office confirmed, it’s a technical error. Lufthansa has been showing new, detailed seat maps for a few days – and in the process, the Allegris seat map was uploaded.

It has not been decided yet on which routes the new business class will first be deployed. Meanwhile, the seat map has disappeared from the website after being displayed, e.g. for Munich – Vancouver in August.

New Details about the Allegris Product

Yesterday, Lufthansa also held an online event on the Allegris topic and announced a few more details or confirmed previous rumours.

Seat reservations mostly subject to charges

Especially interesting from our point of view is the topic of seat reservations, as almost only the hard product has been reported on so far. And here, unfortunately, Lufthansa confirmed what was already feared: of the 7 seat types, only a small part can be reserved for free – namely, the Classic seat on the aisle (and possibly the double seat?).

Anyone wishing a longer bed will have to pay an additional fee. Also, e.g. the throne single seats (Extra Space Seat) and the window seats with particularly high privacy will cost extra, as well as the suites with doors at the bulkhead. Exceptions are only supposed to be made for status customers. Those unwilling to pay will have the seat assigned at check-in.

Even a real window seat will cost extra in business class. The “normal” seats are theoretically also located at the window, but you have to twist quite a bit to look out:

More Details

Here are a few more gathered insights into the Allegris business & first class:

  • The introduction of the Allegris Class is expected to take place in the summer of 2024. Initially on board an Airbus A350, followed by the Boeing 787.
  • The Airbus A350 will initially operate without a new first class. Instead, a row of economy seats will be installed as placeholders.
  • The Airbus A380 will not receive the Allegris business class. Instead, it will be equipped with a new type of business class (probably reverse herringbone).
  • Whether Allegris or not, it is said to have no influence on pricing (although revenue management can adjust based on demand).
  • Those wanting to travel in the first-class double suite as a couple must book this by phone through a special hotline.

Conclusion

If you come across the new seat map on the Lufthansa website, don’t get your hopes up immediately. It has not been specified when and on which routes the new Allegris business class will first operate.

Nevertheless, the market launch is getting closer, and gradually more details are coming to light. We expect that by summer 2024, it will indeed be the case.
