Lufthansa: Pre-Ordering Meals in Business Class Now Available (Also in Swiss First Class)

Just over two weeks ago, Lufthansa announced an enhancement in the business class service. Starting in mid-August, it should be possible to pre-order meals in the business class.

Now, halfway through the month, the promised service has become available. Travellers need to log in to pre-flight-shopping.com using their booking code, as well as their first and last names. There, six main course options are presented, and customers can place their orders.

Swiss has been offering pre-ordering since last summer, with a few more options than Lufthansa. Even without a booking, you can have a look at the menu; the Assortment button in the top left serves this purpose.

This service is available between 6 weeks and 24 hours before departure. The following conditions must be met:

  • The flight is in Lufthansa/Swiss business class or Swiss first class.
  • The flight is a long-haul journey.
  • Departure is from the hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, or Zurich.

For flights departing from other continents, meal pre-ordering is not possible. Similarly, paid meals in economy class can be pre-ordered through the link, but this has been available for a while.

More Choices than Onboard

As announced by Lufthansa, pre-ordering comes with a broader menu selection. Online, a total of six dishes are available for selection, whereas only 3 are offered onboard. Currently, the following options are presented:

  • Pan-seared beef fillet with pepper jus, princess beans, and potato gratin.
  • Vegetarian vegetable curry with basmati rice and cashew nuts.
  • Teriyaki chicken leg with sweet soy sauce, Asian vegetables, and jasmine rice.
  • Halibut fillet with tomato-rosemary sauce, broccoli, and vegetable couscous.
  • Salmon fillet with herb potatoes.
  • Pan-fried polenta with chanterelles and mushrooms, red cherry tomatoes, and Gouda cheese sauce.

Pre-ordering Also Available with Swiss

Swiss business class has had this option since the summer of 2022. For Swiss business class, there are even eight options available, including Zürich-style sliced meat, beef shoulder, and Teriyaki noodles.

Currently, Swiss is the only airline offering this service in first class as well. There are currently nine options available:

According to the Lufthansa website, meals can also be cancelled and reordered at any time up to 24 hours before departure (in the case of, for instance, a rebooking):

Furthermore, if no later than 36 hours before your flight (Lufthansa Economy Europe) and 24 hours (Lufthansa Business Intercontinental), you are able to place a new order for your new flight and can cancel your old reservation.

    My experience today – order must be made at least the 2nd day before the flight, 24 hours is not long enough
