Nairobi: KLM & Air France Flights Starting at €355 From Norway, Switzerland, & Austria (With Luggage)

Maasai Mara Nairobi

SkyTeam members KLM and Air France are currently selling cheap flights to Kenya again. Departing from Basel, Oslo, Zurich, Vienna, or Geneva, you can fly to Nairobi for prices starting at €355 (~NOK 4,079). 23 kg of luggage is included.

Currently, you would need to upload a negative PCR test here and fill out this form. That can all still change, though, until you actually fly there. Make sure to always check the updated information here.

Air France and KLM will let you cancel all trips until December 31 for free. You would first get a voucher, which you can then get a full refund on. If you’re traveling in 2022, you can only rebook the flights, paying a (possibly high) fare difference. You can read the exact rules here.

There’s availability from August until March (except in December). As Air France and KLM’s flights are only fully refundable in 2021, we recommend booking for sometime between September and November 2021.

You can fly from the following airports:

Both Air France and KLM use a Boeing 787 Dreamliner for their 8-hour flights to Nairobi. If you fly with Air France, you’ll have a layover in Paris. With KLM, the layover is in Amsterdam.

Search & Book

You can book these flights until October 17, 2021. Your flights have to take place between mid-August and late November 2021, or between January and March 2022. Furthermore, your trip needs to be at least 4 days long.

You can find all available dates on Google Flights. You should then book directly on KLM’s website.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

The short flights to Paris/Amsterdam are issued in booking class L, while the long-haul flights are issued in booking class G. Flying from Oslo via Paris with Air France would roughly get you:
