Santiago de Chile: $1,295 LATAM Business Class Flights from Miami

LATAM Boeing 787 Business Class Refill

LATAM is currently holding a sale on flights between the US and South America. Amongst these discounted fares, the one which is specifically interesting is business class fares between Miami and Santiago de Chile starting at US$1,295 (~€1,197). However, to achieve these prices, one would have to have a layover in one of LATAM’s hubs – at least on the way to South America.

You can add a stopover in Bogota, which would raise the price to US$1,332 (~€1,231). Unfortunately, that fare is only available through OTAs.

While not part of the sale, LATAM offers another interesting deal: non-stop lie-flat business class flights between Miami and Punta Cana starting at US$591 (~€546).

Our availability calendar highlights all possible flight dates at the lowest price for trips up to 28 days. It will forward you to Momondo with your selected flight dates. There, you can choose between LATAM’s website or OTAs, which offer these fares US$60 (~€55) cheaper.

LATAM flies a Boeing 787 on all three legs on our example journey. On our example dates, all three legs have the 2-2-2 cabin.

LATAM has lie-flat business class seats on its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. However, unfortunately, most of them feature a 2-2-2 configuration, giving you a seatmate when seated in window seats. To make it worse, the privacy situation is pretty bad, with no effective dividers. However, when the seat next to you is empty, it’s a solid experience. Although, you will still be far away from your personal screen. However, this is about to change as LATAM starts installing 1-2-1 seating on its Boeing 787-9s. You can read our review in German to learn about the experience.

According to the fare rules, this fare will expire on May 31, 2023. There is a minimum stay of 5 nights or a Saturday night and a maximum stay of 12 months. You must start your final leg by August 31, 2023.

You can use our calendar above that will show you availabilities. Once you selected your dates, it will forward you to Momondo with your preselected flight dates. From Momondo, you can get to LATAM’s website, but you can also start your search there directly. With all its disadvantages, it may be worth it to book through online travel agencies (OTAs), since they offer prices of up to US$60 (~€55) cheaper. You can also search more specifically on Google Flights (instructions) for example by setting filters. You can then use our Go2 browser extension to book your flights.

Why is booking with an airline better than with an online travel agency?

More often than not, online travel agencies offer lower fares than airlines do. We still recommend booking with the airlines directly. There are two main reasons for that:

Better Customer Service
In case any problems like delays, cancellations or missed connections arise, you can communicate directly with the airline. The airline has to take care of you because you have a contract with them.

If a travel agency issues your ticket, you may have to reach out to them first. You also depend on your OTA to forward information like flight changes instead of receiving them directly from the airline. In many cases, you may get a prime exhibition of responsibility shifting rather than problem-solving.

This especially applies to premium tickets. You don’t want to spend more than €1,000 to wind up with some budget OTA’s telephone hotline in case anything goes wrong.

Baggage and Other Fees
Economy fares not including hold luggage are industry standard by now. In most cases, travel agencies charge much higher baggage fees than the airlines themselves. If bags are not included in your fare, airlines are often the cheaper alternative.

This also applies to other things like food services, insurances or priority treatment. In almost all cases, you pay less for additional amenities when booking on the airlines’ website.

Adding a Stopover

To add a stopover, you should select a return fare above which would then serve as your first and last leg’s dates. Then, you can add the middle leg on any day, but pay attention to the minimum stay requirement, as that will still apply to your stay in Santiago.

Information & Tips for Santiago de Chile

Santiago de Chile is the capital and most important economic center of Chile. With its 5.6 million inhabitants, the city is also a key cultural center which attracts numerous tourists thanks to its location near both the coast and the Andes Mountains.

From the Airport to the City Center

Two different airport busses, CentroPuerto and TurBus, run from the airport to the city. The fare is about 3€ per person and the journey takes about 30 to 50 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Credit cards are accepted when buying a ticket at the airport counter.

Unfortunately, none of the two buses take you directly into the city centre. The buses from CentroPuerto go to the “Los Héroes” station, from there you can walk to the central Plaza de Armas in about 20 minutes and a transfer to the metro is also possible quite easily. A taxi is a bit faster and costs approximately 20€.

Best Time to Travel

The best weather conditions for sightseeing and other touristic activities are in spring between September and November and in autumn between March and May. Temperatures during these months are moderate and rainfall is low.
